Banking Services and the threat of COVID-19

Banking Services and the threat of COVID-19
March 19, 2020 BATT

The Bankers Association of Trinidad and Tobago (BATT) has been monitoring the global and regional developments as they relate to the novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) and we will continue to do so with heightened awareness following the announcement of Trinidad & Tobago’s first COVID 19 case on Thursday 12th March, 2020, by the Minister of Health.

BATT wishes to reassure customers that Banks are taking steps to protect its staff and customers, as far as possible, from inadvertently contracting and or spreading the virus, as they access banking services throughout the country.

The Banks have increased their internal cleaning protocol and have made the required sanitary provisions at each bank.

In keeping with the public advisories of the Minister of Health and other health care officials, the standard practices and steps for personal protection are to be observed when accessing banking services, especially if visiting Bank Branches.

  • BATT takes this opportunity to encourage all banking customers as follows:
    • Reduce your in-Branch transactions and make use of your Bank’s digital and electronic channels; as far as possible: Bank online or via telephone by contacting your Bank’s Call Center.
      • Avoid the crowd at the Banking halls – use your Bank’s conveniently located ATM machines
  • Try as much as possible to use your bank cards and limit cash transactions
  • If you have virus symptoms, avoid coming into a Bank Branch
  • Utilise the banks’ call centers
  • If you must visit a Branch, be sure to avoid physical contact with persons and limit your contact with surfaces within the public spaces.

We encourage our customers as best as possible to limit the time spent within a Branch, by making use of all available electronic banking channels and by speaking to your banking representative before coming into the Branch.

Let’s all work together to protect ourselves, our communities and our country!

BATT remains committed to ensure the most efficient transition over this period and to providing our clients with the best service possible.

BATT is committed to providing continuous updates to members of the public, in this period of transition.
