December 9, 2019 BATT

The Bankers Association of Trinidad and Tobago (BATT) notes and welcomes the public communications and announcements made by the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago(CBTT), and by the Honourable Minister of National Security, concerning the introduction of the new polymer $100 note to replace the existing $100 note in circulation.

BATT underscores the importance of this initiative as part of a national strategy to improve the security features of the $100 note, by upgrading the capacity to protect against forgery and to facilitate its use by the visually impaired. According to BATT President Karen Darbasie “The durability and robust security features of the new note are aligned to best practice in global currency design.”

As indicated by the Minister of National Security, effective Monday 9th December, 2019 both the existing and the new notes will be in circulation. BATT fully supports the change and assures members of the public that there will be no disruption to their business and personal transactions during the period of transition.
